Privacy Policy
Version 2026-10-01, in effect from 1 October 2026.
What personal information AskTax collects, why, who processes it, how long it is kept, and the rights you have over it.
Contents
1. Who we are
AskTax is provided by StyleUpp s.r.o. (“we”, “us”). We decide how and why your personal information is used, which makes us its “controller” under UK and EU data-protection law.
- Company: StyleUpp s.r.o.
- Address: Mečislavova 164/7, Nusle, 140 00 Praha 4, Czech Republic
- Registration: Company ID (IČO) 09927646, registered in the Commercial Register kept by the Municipal Court in Prague, section C, file 344827
- VAT ID: CZ09927646
- Email: support@styleupp.com
We are established in the Czech Republic, in the European Union, so our lead data-protection authority in the EU is the Czech Office for Personal Data Protection (Úřad pro ochranu osobních údajů, uoou.gov.cz).
This policy covers the website at asktax.app, the AskTax apps for iPhone and Android, and the emails we send. It is written to match how the service actually works; if something here is unclear, ask us.
2. The information we collect
Your account
Your email address and your password. Our sign-in provider stores only a one-way scrambled form of the password (a “hash”), never the password itself. We also record when you signed up, confirmed your email and last signed in. If you sign in with Google, Google shares your name, email address and profile picture with us.
Your tax profile
The country whose tax law applies to you — the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain, the Netherlands or Italy — and what that country's questions depend on:
- United States: how you earn, how your business is set up, your filing status, the tax year and your state if you give it.
- United Kingdom: how you earn, how your business is set up, whether you are VAT registered, the tax year and your region of the UK if you give it.
- Spain: your activity, your business form, how your income tax (IRPF) is worked out, your VAT scheme, the tax year, your autonomous community if you give it, and your language.
- The Netherlands: how you earn, your business form, your income-tax position (including whether you meet the hours criterion, the urencriterium), your VAT position (including whether you use the small business scheme, KOR), the tax year and your language.
- Italy: your activity, your business form, your tax regime (such as the regime forfettario), your VAT position, the tax year, your region if you give it, and your language.
In every country you can also add a few words about what you do. Your language is the one you use AskTax and get answers in: English, or the country's own language.
We never ask for your income, your tax or identity numbers (such as a Social Security number or EIN, a UTR or National Insurance number, a DNI, NIE or NIF, a BSN, or a codice fiscale or partita IVA), bank details or tax documents. Please do not type them into your questions.
Your questions and answers
The questions you ask, the answers you receive (including the sources they cite), each chat's title (taken from its first question) and the technical details of each answer: which AI model wrote it and how much text it processed. Your Library is built from these answers.
Your agreement to our terms
Which version of the Terms of Use and this Privacy Policy you agreed to, when, and where (the website, the iPhone app or the Android app), with the identification string your browser or app sends (its “user agent”). We do not record your IP address with it.
Your subscription
Whether your subscription is active, where you bought it (by card on the website, in the App Store or on Google Play), its billing periods, when access ends and whether it renews, and the identifiers that link your account to your records at Stripe or RevenueCat. We also receive the notices Stripe and RevenueCat send when a subscription changes; these can include your billing name, email, country and postal code as you gave them to Stripe. We never see or store your card number: you enter it on Stripe's own checkout page. When you subscribe on the website, Stripe asks for your billing address — and, if you buy as a business, your tax ID — to work out the VAT or sales tax due; we receive your billing country from it.
A withdrawal from your subscription
If you withdraw from a website subscription within 14 days: when you asked, the subscription it concerned, your billing country, the days used and the refund, and when we emailed you the confirmation.
Your usage
How many answers you have received in the current billing month and in the last hour, so that the fair-use limits (100 answers a billing month, 20 an hour) can be applied.
Technical information
When you use AskTax, our hosting providers record technical details of each request, such as your IP address, the type of device and browser, the time, and what was requested. Our sign-in provider also keeps the IP address and browser or app of each signed-in session.
Cookies and your device
The website uses only the cookies it needs to work: one that keeps you signed in, a one-time value used while you sign up or sign in, one that remembers your cookie choice, and a security cookie Cloudflare sets to protect our database provider from bots. There are no analytics or advertising cookies. The Cookie Policy lists them. The apps keep your sign-in on your device.
Messages you send us
If you email us, we keep the correspondence.
We do not use trackers, collect your precise location, or read your contacts, photos or other data on your device.
3. How we use it, and why we are allowed to
UK and EU data-protection law requires a “legal basis” for each use of personal information. Ours are shown next to each purpose.
| Purpose | Information used | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Create your account, sign you in and keep you signed in | Account, technical information | Performing our contract with you |
| Answer your questions: find the relevant law and write an answer with an AI model | Your question, the recent messages in the same chat, your tax profile | Performing our contract with you |
| Keep your chats, answers and Library, and let you download them | Questions and answers | Performing our contract with you |
| Bill your subscription and give you access to it | Subscription, account | Performing our contract with you; keeping accounting records the law requires |
| Work out and charge VAT or sales tax (through Stripe Tax) | Billing address, tax ID if you give one | Legal obligation (tax law) |
| Let you withdraw from a website subscription, refund you and confirm it by email | Subscription, withdrawal record, email address | Performing our contract with you; legal obligation (consumer law) |
| Apply the fair-use limits | Usage counts | Performing our contract with you; our legitimate interest in keeping the service available to everyone |
| Keep the service secure, prevent abuse and fix problems | Technical information, account | Our legitimate interest in running a safe and working service |
| Send emails you need: sign-up codes, sign-in links, a welcome email, and the confirmations of your subscription and of any withdrawal | Email address, subscription | Performing our contract with you; legal obligation (consumer law) for the confirmations |
| Record that you agreed to our terms and this policy | Consent records | Our legitimate interest in being able to show what you agreed to; legal obligations |
| Meet legal obligations and deal with legal claims | Any of the above, as needed | Legal obligation; our legitimate interest in defending our rights |
We do not send marketing emails. We rely on your consent only for optional things, and there are none today. If we ever add optional analytics to the website, it will load only after you choose “Accept all” in the cookie banner, and you can change your mind at any time.
Answers are written by AI. An AI model (Anthropic's Claude) writes each answer from the official sources our library finds for your question. Answers are information for you to use; we do not use them, or anything else, to make decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects. Every answer is marked as written by AI — on the page where you ask, in the data behind each answer, and in your data download, with the model that wrote it — as the EU Artificial Intelligence Act requires.
Translating your question for the search. If you use AskTax in English for Spanish, Dutch or Italian law, an Anthropic model first translates your question into that country's language, so that we can search the law in its own words. It is the same provider that writes the answers, and it receives nothing more than your question (and, when you answer a follow-up question, the question it follows). The answer is still written from your question as you asked it, and we do not store the translation.
We do not use your questions to train AI models, and neither do our AI providers. Who receives your questions, and on what terms, is in section 4.
5. International transfers
AskTax's database and servers are in the United States. If you use AskTax from the United Kingdom or the European Union, your information is transferred to the United States, and some providers may process it in other countries (see section 4).
We protect these transfers with the EU–US Data Privacy Framework (and its UK Extension) where the provider is certified under it, and otherwise with the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK International Data Transfer Addendum in each provider's data processing agreement. You can ask us for a copy of the relevant safeguards.
6. How long we keep it
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| Your account, tax profile, questions and answers, consent records, subscription status and any withdrawal from a subscription | Until you delete them or your account. Deleting a chat deletes its questions and answers, and they leave your Library with it. |
| Fair-use usage counts | Deleted 3 months after the period they count. |
| Billing notices from Stripe and RevenueCat | The details inside each notice (which can include your billing name, email, country and postal code) are deleted 13 months after we receive it. A short record that the notice was handled — the provider, its identifier and type, the outcome, the date and your account ID — is kept after that, including after you delete your account, so that no payment event is ever applied twice and our billing records stay complete. |
| Sign-in sessions (the IP address and browser or app of each one) | Until you sign out or delete your account. |
| Request logs at Supabase and Vercel | A few days (7 at most), unless needed longer to investigate abuse or a security problem. |
| Database backups | Information you delete stays in Supabase's daily backups for up to 7 days, then it is gone. |
| Emails we send | Resend keeps them for 30 days. |
| Text sent to our AI providers | Anthropic: deleted within 30 days (longer only to investigate misuse, or where the law requires it). Voyage AI: Voyage AI deletes the text as soon as it has processed it and does not use it to train its models. |
| Records at Stripe, RevenueCat, Apple and Google | Kept under their own policies, including as long as tax and accounting law requires. Deleting your AskTax account does not delete them. |
| Emails you send to support | As long as we need them to deal with your request and any follow-up. |
| Your cookie choice | 12 months, in a cookie on your device. |
7. Your rights and choices
Everyone
- See and download your data from Account → Download my data (details below).
- Correct it. Change your tax profile at any time on the website or in the app. To change your email address, write to support@styleupp.com.
- Delete it. Delete any chat, or your whole account — see section 8.
For anything else, write to support@styleupp.com from the email address of your account. We may need to confirm it is you before we act. We answer within one month (UK and EU) or 45 days (US states), and tell you if we need longer.
What the download contains
On the website or in the app, go to Account → Download my data. You get one file (JSON, a common format other services can read) with:
- your account: its ID, email address, when it was created and confirmed, when you last signed in and how you sign in;
- your tax profile;
- your consent records: each document and version you agreed to, when, where and the browser or app you used;
- your subscriptions: where you bought them, their status, billing periods, when access ends, whether they renew and until when you can withdraw;
- any withdrawal from a website subscription: when you asked, the days used, the refund and when we confirmed it;
- your fair-use usage for this billing month and the last hour, with the counts behind them;
- every chat, with every question and answer — each answer marked as written by AI, with the model that wrote it.
You can download it once every 10 minutes. It leaves out the identifiers that link your account to Stripe and RevenueCat and the raw billing notices they send us; ask support@styleupp.com if you want those too.
If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Union
You have the right to access your information, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict how we use it, to receive it in a portable format, and to object to uses based on our legitimate interests. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
You can complain to a data-protection authority. Our lead authority in the EU is the Czech Office for Personal Data Protection (uoou.gov.cz). You can also complain to the authority in the country where you live or work, or where you believe the law was broken — for example:
- Spain: the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (AEPD, aepd.es).
- The Netherlands: the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl).
- Italy: the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali (garanteprivacy.it).
- United Kingdom: the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113).
- Other EU and EEA countries: the authorities listed at edpb.europa.eu.
We would appreciate the chance to deal with your concern first.
If you live in California or another US state with a privacy law
You have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose; to get a copy of it; to have it deleted; and to have it corrected. You can use these rights yourself as described above, or through an authorized agent, and we will not treat you differently for using them. If we turn down a request, you can appeal by replying to our answer; if you are still not satisfied, you can contact your state's Attorney General.
We do not sell or share your personal information (including for cross-context behavioral advertising), and we have not done so in the last 12 months. We use sensitive personal information — your account login — only to provide the service.
| Category | What it covers here | Disclosed to |
|---|---|---|
| Identifiers | Email address, account ID, IP address | Supabase, Vercel, Resend, Stripe, RevenueCat (ID only) |
| Customer records | Billing name, email and billing address, and a tax ID if you give one (via Stripe) | Stripe |
| Commercial information | Your subscription and purchase history | Stripe, RevenueCat, Apple, Google |
| Internet or other network activity | Request and session details | Supabase, Vercel |
| Professional or employment-related information | How you earn and how your business is set up (tax profile) | Supabase, Anthropic |
| Sensitive personal information | Your account login (email address and password) | Supabase |
| Other information you give us | Your questions | Supabase, Anthropic, Voyage AI |
We collect this information from you, from your device, from Stripe, RevenueCat, Apple and Google (about your subscription) and, if you use it, from Google sign-in. The purposes are in section 3, and how long we keep each kind in section 6.
8. Deleting your account and data
You can delete your AskTax account and its data yourself, at any time, on the website or in the iPhone or Android app. You do not need to agree to updated terms to do it.
How to delete your account
- Sign in on the website (asktax.app) or in the app.
- Open Account and choose Delete account.
- Confirm. Your account is deleted straight away.
If you can no longer sign in or no longer have the app, write to support@styleupp.com from the email address of your account and we will delete it for you. You can also delete single chats at any time without deleting your account; their questions and answers are deleted with them.
What is deleted, and what is kept
Go to Account → Delete account, on the website or in the app. It works even if you have not agreed to updated terms. It:
- cancels a card subscription immediately, without a refund for the rest of the period — if you are in the EU or EEA and subscribed less than 14 days ago, withdraw first (Account → Withdraw from contract here) to be refunded for the unused days;
- then deletes your account, tax profile, chats and answers, consent records, subscription status, usage counts and the link to your Stripe customer record.
A subscription bought in the App Store or on Google Play is billed by Apple or Google, and only you can cancel it — in the store, before or after deleting your account. Deleting your account does not stop the store billing you.
Some things stay for a while (see “How long we keep information” in the Privacy Policy): the short record of each billing notice, database backups (up to 7 days), the text our AI providers have processed (Anthropic: up to 30 days), sent emails at Resend (30 days), and the records Stripe, RevenueCat, Apple and Google keep under their own policies.
Consider downloading your data first (Account → Download my data): once the account is deleted, we cannot restore it.
9. Children
AskTax is for adults: you must be 18 or older to use it. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has created an account, tell us at support@styleupp.com and we will delete it.
10. Security
- Everything you send to AskTax is encrypted in transit (HTTPS), and our hosting providers encrypt stored data.
- Database access rules, checked on every request, keep each person's information visible only to them.
- Passwords are stored only as one-way hashes, and we never handle card numbers.
- Our secret keys for our providers are held only on our servers, never in the website or the apps.
No system is completely secure. If a breach affects your personal information, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
11. Changes to this policy
Each version of this policy has a version number and the date it takes effect, shown at the top. If we make an important change, we will ask you to review it and agree before you continue using AskTax; you can instead download your data and delete your account. Ask us for any earlier version.
12. Contact
Write to support@styleupp.com about anything in this policy, or post to Mečislavova 164/7, Nusle, 140 00 Praha 4, Czech Republic.
Read this policy with our Terms of Use and Cookie Policy. The Legal page collects them all.
